Types of screw head shapes
Learn about the types and characteristics of typical screw head shapes. Please refer to it when choosing products.
Pan (head) | ●A typical screw with rounded corners on the top surface that looks like an upside-down pan ●Generally used screw | |
---|---|---|
Countersunk (head) | ●With a countersunk screw head ●Use when you don’t want it to protrude, or when you want it to be the same height as the element to be fastened ●It must be element that fastens with pilot hole processing that matches the countersunk (counterbore processing) ●When expressing the length under the neck, the plate indicates the length from the head | |
Raised countersunk (head) | ●The shape of the top surface of the plate is rounded ●If you use a plate, it may get caught in the recessed part, but if you use a round plate, it will not get caught ●When expressing the length under neck, raised countersunk refers to the length from the brim. | |
Truss (head) | ●Smooth round shape ●Compared to a pan head, the height of the head is lower and the diameter of the head is larger. ●Due to the large outer shape, the ground contact area is large, which leads to loosening prevention. | |
Binding (head) | ●Smooth round shape ●Compared to a pan head, the height of the head is lower and the diameter of the head is larger. ●Due to the large outer shape, the ground contact area is large, which leads to loosening prevention. | |
Small countersunk (head) | ● The top part of the countersunk screw is shaved ● The diameter of the head is small, so it can be used in narrow places and fine equipment where normal countersunk screw cannot be used. | |
Shinwasher | ●Because the height of the head is low, the protrusion is not noticeable. ●Wide seating surface for secure fastening. ●The appearance after installation is also important. | |
Round(head) | ● The head is similar to a sphere cut in half, and the shape is closer to a sphere than a pan ●Not very popular now | |
Hexagon (head) | ●It has a hexagonal head and is often used as a set with a nut. ●It is tightened with a spanner or wrench. ●Used for construction and large equipment. ●Functionality is more important than appearance. | |
With Flange | ●Bolt with a conical flange ●The bearing surface area is large to prevent loosening and to prevent from sinking ●No need to install a washer, improving work efficiency | |
Hexagon socket (head) | ●The head of the cylinder has a hexagonal hole. ●Uses a hexagonal wrench for tightening. ●Also called a cap bolt. ●Can work in narrow spaces and smaller machines. | |
Button (head) | ●Rounded head shape with hexagonal hole ●Use a hexagonal wrench for tightening ●Can be used in narrow spaces where a screwdriver cannot be used ●Lower head than with a hexagonal hole | |
Low head | ●It is a screw with a low head height. ●Ideal for device and equipment where the space is limited ●Appearance is good because there are few protrusions ●General hex bolt head is 6mm, low head bolt is 4mm | |
Extra Low head | ●Screw head height is even lower ●There is almost no protrusion ●Extra low head bolts are 0.7 to 1.2mm compared to 6mm for general hex bolts |
